Sport Nigeria LTD/GTE recently led a delegation to visit H.E. Dr. Alex Otti, the Executive Governor of Abia State. Our Vice Chairman, Mr. Yahaya Maikori, and CEO, Ms. Nkechi Obi, were joined by senior executives from organizations in our Technical Advisory Partners Scheme (TAPs) for this significant meeting.
The purpose of the visit was to align with the 2022-2026 National Sports Industry Policy (NSIP), emphasizing the vital role states play in reshaping Nigeria's sports industry. This meeting offered a valuable opportunity to engage with the Governor of Abia State, showcasing how collaboration can help the state harness the power of sports to drive investment and boost socio-economic development, in line with Governor Otti's vision for transformational growth.
Our presentation to Governor Otti highlighted key strategies for leveraging sports as a catalyst for economic development in Abia State, including:
Infrastructure as the Core of Economic Growth
Infrastructure is crucial for building a commercially viable sports industry. Providing standardized sports facilities can increase participation in sports and physical activities, promoting healthier lifestyle choices and generating demand for sports goods and services.
Job Creation through Sports Facilities
Sports facilities can create numerous employment opportunities, from white-collar to blue-collar jobs, from construction to activation. This initiative can help engage Abia's youth, reducing anti-social behaviors and crime in the state.
Boosting Local Manufacturing
The demand for sports goods and services can stimulate investment in manufacturing and establish factories in Abia State. This economic activity will reinforce Aba's status as a leading destination for goods production and an industrial hub.
Our visit and proposed collaboration with Governor Otti have set the stage for a promising partnership aimed at enhancing the lives of Ndi Abia through sports.
Fun Fact
Abia State is the third in our series of subnational engagements, following previous visits to Kaduna and Kano States, and the first engagement with a state chief executive.
